Leaving Chang Mai and India Preparations

Certain stars seemed to aligned in the last couple of weeks. My cousin Ratna is getting married in India. Bangkok to Delhi tickets are extremely cheap. All of a sudden plans have changed. We will spend our December in India!

We've been having a bit of a predicament. After we arrived back in Chang Mai, we got in contact with my cousin and went ahead and bought our tickets to India for her wedding. That was last week. We weren't able to begin our visa application process until Wednesday because the consulate is strangely only open from 8am-noon. After walking for nearly two hours, we arrived at 12:30...Then the visa takes a full seven days to process.

So our predicament  has been to find more things to do in Chang Mai after already feeling like we'd done everything. Over the week, we've rented a couple of motorbikes and took a trip north to the tourist mountain town of Pai. When we returned to Chang Mai, we been reading a lot as well as learning more about India.

But finally, we leave tomorrow, by train, for Bangkok. We stopped by the train station just by chance to see how much tickets were. It turned out that they weren't much more expensive than the bus. So tomorrow afternoon, we will head across country in a sleeper car.

We plan to immediately take a bus to Rayong, then back to Bangkok to enjoy our reservations at the tallest hotel in Thailand (thanks Steve and Therese!).

On the 5th we will leave for India. Neither of us have been there, but were both very excited.

Wow! Pads on the train berths! India has changed in the last 30yrs. But it sounds like many things are still the same.
