Time as Flies, as Time Flies
If I may, I would like to add a note. "Boat life" is a balance of stress and discomfort with paradise and opportunity. There are days where it makes one begin to scream inside while scooping dead flies from all 27' of boat deck, while banging ones head on every corner, while scratching mosquito bites, while receiving pricks of pain reminding you that the sun is more intense on the water, while trying to figure out how to make a substantial meal when resources are limited and lack of refrigeration is apparent. Some days bring a lot of joy and happiness:
And others inspire the following:
*Note, this "poem" was written with my left hand while driving the boat while attacking flies and mosquitoes. So do with it what you may, interpret it in your own sort of way.
Between sympathetic companions on a due north heading and beastly savage enemies in an estranged sort of dance,
We nor time seem to fly fast enough to cause a departure from one another,
So the killing begins.
They started it. We sought no battles, nor war, nor blood, but as it turns out,
Our blood is that which streaks the battle-floor, as their bites bring both death from us, the larger beasts, and even from betrayal of ones own kin, as a result of starvation's effects.
Shall I pity them though? For I know not the depths of hunger nor does my palate demand the exclusivity of blood shed.
Are these creatures a reflection of a fallen world? The demand for blood, driving us to sheer madness until it has been given or fought for?
Or the other? Though outnumbered by sheer masses, shall we resort to mere cattle and allow ourselves to be grazed?
I think not!
Such blood is precious and worthy to be fought for, no matter how small the drops may be.
So as time flies, I realize this world is not, at its core, paradise or a place to be continuously praised, so as long as blood is needed for survival and the reminding memory of the temporal moves on as such,
I can confidently say I see here on this earth,
Time, as flies.
