Sails On Again

Some things never change.  Perhaps it was because I was thrown into it at a young age...a little girl grabbing comfort bits of home as the boat pulled from the dock back in 1998 for a 9 month journey southward.
Now in nostalgia, it strikes that chord as I prepare to depart for a 3 week journey westward on the shores of Lake Superior.  Yes, some things just don't change.

This time however, it is our own "bohemian" mix matched items that make up home as we plan this drift above the water.  Preparations simple and unusual one could say.  A sheep skin lashed under the straps of an Old Navy pack.  Or a dry sack containing a laptop.  Or a hockey stick converted to boat hook (thanks to my dad's ingenious and practical solutions.)  This is life, and I would never change our wayfaring style for anything that was pre-assembled or made to fit together.  It's just way too inspiring to watch unusual combinations take place, that's when I know I've found home.

Oh yeah, so we're leaving for the Apostle Islands from Marquette, westward Superior shown on the map below.  Keep us in your hearts, we have some unknown waters and lands ahead.
